Ingredient Spotlight: Lavender Essential Oil

Lavender is one of the most beloved scents in natural skincare โ€” and for good reason. Here's what makes it special and why it's in our best-selling bar.

More Than Just a Pretty Scent

Lavender essential oil is distilled from the flowers of Lavandula angustifolia, a flowering plant native to the Mediterranean. It's been used for centuries in everything from perfumes to medicine โ€” and it's one of the most well-studied essential oils in existence.

In skincare, lavender does more than smell calming. It has natural antibacterial properties, making it useful for acne-prone and blemish-prone skin. It's also known for its ability to soothe redness and irritation, which is why it pairs so beautifully with colloidal oatmeal in our Lavender & Oat bar.

What It Does in Soap

When we add lavender essential oil to our soap batter, it does a few things:

Scent โ€” Lavender's floral, slightly herbaceous aroma is widely considered calming and stress-relieving. It's one of those scents that just feels like a deep breath.

Skin benefits โ€” Even at the concentrations used in a wash-off product like soap, lavender essential oil contributes mild antibacterial and soothing properties.

Stability โ€” Lavender holds its scent well through the saponification process and the cure period. Some essential oils fade or morph during soapmaking โ€” lavender stays true.

Why We Use It

Our Lavender & Oat bar has been our best seller since we started Bear Den Market in 2022. The combination of lavender essential oil and colloidal oatmeal was designed specifically for sensitive and dry skin โ€” and the response from customers has been incredible.

We source our lavender essential oil from a reputable supplier that tests for purity and potency. No synthetic fragrance oils. Just the real thing.
